The Perils of Simplistic Decisions in a Connected World | ✉️ #67

Hey! 👋
In recent days, we’ve witnessed the consequences of forgetting how interconnected everything truly is. A single individual—in this case, the President of the United States—decided unilaterally to break all commercial rules, imposing tariffs on nearly every country in the world (with the puzzling exceptions of North Korea and Russia). The reasoning behind this move remains unclear, beyond the fantastical idea of relocating all global factories to the U.S.
This plan was built on simplistic assumptions: that tariffs wouldn’t trigger inflation, that the dollar would remain unaffected, and that global perceptions of U.S. bonds and currency would stay unchanged.
But this is where the problem lies—simplistic designs lead to catastrophic outcomes. Flawed architecture always ends in chaos, and chaos breeds disorder and fear. In this case, the VIX surged wildly, while 10- and 30-year bond yields spiked.
The same principle applies to product design: if you don’t know how to architect a solution, the results will be disastrous. That’s why it’s critical to consult professionals before making major decisions. At mkdev, we bring years of experience working with Europe’s largest companies—designing their infrastructure and, more recently, guiding their AI strategies. So if you want to avoid sending your IT into turmoil (or triggering your own "VIX moment"), think carefully before you act.
